Daniel Island Waterfront Comes Alive.

We have lived, worked and played on Daniel Island for over 15 years. What an amazing experience it has been with the constant evolution of beautiful new homes, additional community swimming pools, The massive Daniel Island Club expansion, the addition of modern new shopping, many new restaurants (rumors of one of Charleston's elite restaurants coming soon) and much more. There is always a buzz on the island about what's new.

For most of the time we have been here there has been talk of a marina to be built on the island. About a dozen years ago we had waterfront listings on Ralston Creek. I took a call from an interested buyer who said he lived in Houston and wanted to buy a big waterfront home for his

I had dinner with a close friend recently. He is a major adventure seeker. He swam with sharks off the Great Barrier Reef, ran with the bulls in Spain, climbed to Michu Pichu and more. I have tremendous respect for those who grab for the gusto in life. He seems to enjoy making others think about their life. He asked me "So what's on your bucket list?"

A highlight of my adventures was sailing a 65' yacht through an unexpected hurricane off the west coast of Florida. Sailing a 42' catamaran in rough weather from San Francisco to Seattle. Climbing 5 14,000' high mountain peaks in Colorado. Hum ... so now what is my bucket list?

Since I moved to Charleston I don't find myself as anxious to go find the next hot spot or adventure. As I reflected

First, I want to express my heartfelt concern for all those dealing with difficult winter weather this season. We feel very blessed to be living in Charleston and enjoying balmy Thanksgiving weather in November. As I sit on my screened porch with my laptop, I feel compelled to share a little of our wonderful Charleston Thanksgiving.

We have friends with a large extended family that come down to their second home on Daniel Island every year. This year they had 24 family members and they invited us to join them. They fill their home, guest cottages at the Daniel Island Club and a VRBO home on Daniel Island. It is fun to catch up with them over Thanksgiving dinner. Family members are filled with excitement about their adventures during the week.

Charleston South Carolina beaches are amazing and usually not crowded. I grew up in the Valley Forge area. My buddies would hop up the car and drive 2-3 hours in bumper to bumper traffic to New Jersey beaches. We had to have beach tags, pay for parking and get real cozy with strangers spread out nearby. Now we live 20 minutes from the beach. Beaches are not crowded (except maybe this weekend). Parking is mostly free. What a wonderful thing.

If you are in town, this article from CHSTODAY covers the beach rules for each beach you might want to know about. Our favorite is Isle Of Palms about 42nd Street. Check it out.

Oh you aren't here. Well we can fix that for next year.

Planning a trip to Charleston? The city if loaded with excellent hotels and the best part may be that they are unique - not your normal national brands. Stay in Historic Charleston if you haven't been here before. Be sure to enjoy a carriage ride through the city. The carriage drivers are all fascinating with storied about what went on in the city such as pirate invasions, the civil war, plantation owners and on and on. Perhaps best of all enjoy the architecture of the amazing homes.

This article from Town and Country Magazine has an excellent list of many of the hotel options.

Daniel Island Park

The first two months of 2017 felt more like spring than winter. With January and February bringing 63 and 67 degree average temperatures respectively, gardens of the city are already full of color. Charleston's signature azaleas are blooming vibrant pink and make the perfect backdrop for an afternoon picnic. On Daniel Island, you see Red Bud trees and Snapdragons framing lush, green yards. Wisteria is dazzling the treetops and we are counting down the official start of spring in just 10 days. We invite our friends bracing for a late nor'easter to come hunker down in our Holy City and basque in the warmth of our favorite time of year. We think you will find "winter" in Charleston the missing piece to the lifestyle you've been looking for.
