The readers of Conde Nast Traveler have once again named Charleston South Carolina the World's Friendliest City! Couple this recognition with Travel + Leisure's World's Best City Award for the third straight year and it's easy to see why the world is flocking to our charming city. In 2015 over 5 million people visited Charleston and apparently we treated them well.
If you live in the Holy City you experience this on a daily basis, just something you expect. What is interesting though is how many other top rankings Charleston has garnered in the last 5 years. Here are just a few:
World's Best City- Travel+Leisure 2016
Top City in the U.S.- Conde Nast Traveler 2011-2014
Top City in the World- Conde Nast Traveler 2012
Top U.S. City -Travel+Leisure 2013
#2 Best Girls'Trips- USA Today 2014
#4 Most Romantic- Fodors 2014
#4 Best American Cities for Foodies- Conde Nast Traveler 2014
Best Place to Retire- Forbes 2014
Best Small City for Retirement- Fortune Magazine 2014
Most Mannerly City more than 30 times.
This list doesn't even mention our economic prowess but we are going to blog about that very soon. But now back to being friendliest, it's true. With a 22% visitor increase in one year it would seem that Charlestonians must get friendlier the more people visit. Consider that your formal invitation to come join the fun.
With all recognitons like this there is a list of unfriendliest as well. You can check out the meanies at www.cntraveler.com
