The market is booming in downtown Charleston. Last week a Bed and Breakfast called, “Pink Palace”, or 5 East Battery,  sold for $6.5 million. The bed and breakfast will be used for single family residence by the new owners. This beautiful historic home has 24 rooms, five halls, six baths, four stairways and seven black marble mantels. A few weeks ago the James Simmons House at 37 Meeting St also sold for $7.5 million, the second-highest ever in historic Charleston. This pre-Revolutionary War house is a historic gem in Charleston. The home was used as Confederate headquarters during the Civil War. The home constructed in 1760, is a 8,384-square-foot residence, that was bought in 1840, for only $9,000!  Now it is only the second most expensive sale ever in

Since moving to Charleston in 2004, my wife Sue, and I, have been amazed by the people of Charleston. Never before had we met so many friendly and high character people.  Yes, we love all that Charleston has to offer; its beaches, the food, and the weather, but it is the people and community that make us so proud to call ourselves Charlestonians.  After the tragic shooting one year ago at Mother Emanuel AME, Charleston’s response made us even more proud to be part of such a special community.  During the toughest and most difficult of times, our cities’ character shined brighter than ever.  The strength of the community was highlighted many times, including when, family members of the victims stood in court and told the shooter, “I forgive you.”  It

There is so much to love about South Carolina, the beaches, the food, the weather, but another thing to love is the property taxes. South Carolina’s property taxes are one of the lowest in the United States. Across the United States, the median property tax is 1.31 percent. While in South Carolina the median property tax is 0.71, giving us the 7th lowest property tax in all of the United States.* Property taxes are out of control in places like New York, New Jersey, Illinois, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. All of these states have over 2 percent property tax rates. For example, one of our staff members recently moved here from Massachusetts and where they paid $10,000 dollars a year in property taxes. After their move to Mount Pleasant into a similarly

We find that one of the main reasons people love Charleston in addition to our extremely friendly people is how easy it is to get around town. Our rock start real estate agent, Bob Farina, put this chart together. As seen in the chart below all of our favorite communities in the Charleston area are within about 15 miles of historic downtown Charleston, the best beaches, shopping in Town Center in Mt. Pleasant, and even easy access to the Charleston Int’l airport. With everything so close by it is easy to see why so many people are relocating to Charleston. Many places have great weather, beautiful beaches, shopping, history, mouthwatering food, and easy access to the airport, but only Charleston has it all. The city has everything found in big urban
