For those of you coming to Charleston during the Spoleto Festival who were not able to score tickets to any of the 6 performances of Porgy and Bess, all is not lost. Spoleto Festival USA has announced the first ever simulcast of the opera's performance. What better story to celebrate the 40 years of the festival than Debose Heyward's tale of life and love in historic Catfish Row right here in the Holy City. Imagine watching this timeless masterpiece with all your friends on the lawn at Marion Square. I suspect this has the possibility to become a massive sing along to those great Gershwin tunes like "Summertime" and "I got plenty o'nuttin' " all on the Jumbotron screen. Monday, May 30th  7:30pm in Downtown Charleston "where the livin' is easy, fish are

We find that one of the main reasons people love Charleston in addition to our extremely friendly people is how easy it is to get around town. Our rock start real estate agent, Bob Farina, put this chart together. As seen in the chart below all of our favorite communities in the Charleston area are within about 15 miles of historic downtown Charleston, the best beaches, shopping in Town Center in Mt. Pleasant, and even easy access to the Charleston Int’l airport. With everything so close by it is easy to see why so many people are relocating to Charleston. Many places have great weather, beautiful beaches, shopping, history, mouthwatering food, and easy access to the airport, but only Charleston has it all. The city has everything found in big urban

One of my favorite restaurants in Daniel Island, Laura Alberts, has been doing Southern Cuisine right since 2002.  When we first went to Laura Alberts in 2002 the mother-daughter team of  Karen Elsey and Laura Leppert was simply a small wine shop. Since then it has evolved to one of Daniel Island’s best lunchtime eateries. My wife and I enjoy their lunches as well as their Wednesday dinners, Saturday brunches, and take out dinner options. Aside from the delicious food and fine wine selections, owner Karen Elsey seems to know everyone and her charismatic nature makes, Laura Alberts, one of the most renowned spots in all of Daniel Island. One of the key factors to their success is executive chef Matt Brigham, who was hired in 2007, and has since been

Not everyone can remember the exact moment the decision to move to Charleston was made. It was May 27th of 1977 and I was sitting on the upstairs piazza at the famous Poogans Porch restaurant. The meal had been superb and I lingered a bit watching a few horse draw carriages move down Queen Street. That was when Queen Street got quiet late in the evening. My day trip down from Myrtle Beach had surprised me with the Spoleto Festival well underway. In that one day I had seen a drawing room comedy play, shopped for art in the park and attended an outdoor jazz concert. By the end of that day I knew I would never miss the Spoleto Festival again and I was moving to Charleston.

This year marks the 40th season of the festival and it promises something for

Well I took a little heat from my friends at The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition for waxing poetic about Spoleto without even mentioning the February Exposition. So as a remedy here are the spring and early summer big events here in Charleston. These are world class so attendance is huge and securing lodging can be a challenge. It's best to book early but if you are having trouble finding something I'd love to help.

Once you buy and sell a few homes you realize that having information about the home you are considering, other similar homes, the local economy and so on is very important to making an intelligent decision.  Numbers, metrics and objective analysis drive the business. Without this information you are subject to the whims of the real estate agent and whatever their agenda may be. Whoever has access to the best data wins. Getting data in residential real estate is daunting. Most turn to Zillow, Trulia and Realtor.com. These sites either don't publish useful info or it is notoriously outdated or misleading info.

The answer is to hire a sharp realtor who does the research for you for market data only available to realtors.   A good realtor is constantly
