Daniel
Island is a vibrant island community located within the boundaries of the
City of Charleston,
The island has a rich history dating back to the American Indian Etiwan tribe in
the 1670s. In 1947 the Guggenheim family purchased the 4,000 acre island to
raise cattle and as a family hunting compound. The land was annexed by the City
of Charleston in 1991 and development of the master plan began in 1995. The
island is now recognized as one of the leading planned communities in the
country recently winning the Urban Land Institute's prestigious "Awards For
Excellence" program. For these reasons, Daniel Island homes are a hot commodity these days. The island is comprised of predominantly year round
residents. Located just off highway 526, it is about 15 minutes to the beaches of
Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island, downtown Charleston with it's
plethora of shops and
restaurants
and the Charleston airport.
With 23
miles of waterfront, Daniel Island features what we believe to be an
unparalleled collection of world class amenities providing the 5,000 plus
residents a relaxed island lifestyle with the convenience of a wide array of
shops, restaurants and services. Restaurants range from 5 star
to delightful week night choices. Every week the community association sends out a
schedule of activities on the island for the week – dinner cruises, book
clubs, wine tastings, tennis clinics, nature walks etc. are offered for your
enjoyment.
The island
is home to the
Family Circle Tennis
Center with it’s 10,200 person stadium (picture of stadium), 17
championship courts and 10,000 square foot club house. The Family Circle Center
also hosts many events throughout the year including festivals, concerts, and
tournaments.
Residents
can join the Daniel Island Club and enjoy world class golf with the only paring
of courses at a single club designed by Tom Fazio and Rees Jones respectively.
The club features a delightful club house with a range of dining options and
popular year round social events. Included among the club’s facilities is The
Park Club which is the center for informal relaxed activity with two delightful
resort pools, the tennis center with manicured clay courts, a well equipped
fitness center and informal dining by the pool.
Housing
options on the island include condominiums, town homes and single family homes
ranging from the low $200,000s to waterfront estates over $5,000,000. Many of the amenities and views available in Daniel Island homes are determined only by how much you are able to spend. The island is designed with narrow streets and most
